How to use Avvo to find an Attorney in Columbus Ohio?
Avvo has over 1 million lawyer reviews and you can do a search for any attorney by name, practice area, State of practice or city of practice. Avvo is free to sign up for, but you can also browse anonymously. In order to leave review for an attorney, you will however, need to create an account and sign into their website.
What is AVVO?
Avvo is an online legal services marketplace. Avvo offers on-demand, affordable legal advice through Avvo Advisor,[1] which delivers an Avvo-rated, experienced lawyer for 15 minutes over the phone, available online or via a free app for iOS devices. In the Avvo Q&A forum, consumers can get their legal questions answered for free by more than 250,000 participating lawyers or search more than 8 million previously asked questions and attorney-provided answers. The Avvo lawyer directory provides Avvo-rated profiles, client reviews, and peer endorsements for 97 percent of all lawyers in the United States. Avvo for Attorneys
The primary feature of the website is for attorneys to be able to connect with clients. An attorney is able to enter in profile information onto Avvo and advertise services to clients. Each attorney profile page includes his or her educational background and practice area. There is a section that lists all the practice areas the attorney specializes in and provides a website link. A potential client can click on this link and be directed to the attorney’s official website. There is also an area to see client reviews, which reflects the attorney’s Avvo rating.
Pro Features for Attorneys
The Pro feature is an option available on Avvo to all attorneys. The Pro feature allows an attorney’s profile to be more visible to clients. Having a pro featured profiles allows clients a quick way to find and contact an attorney. You also will notice that Gary J. Gottfried’s profile is Pro upgraded.

- Personalized headline – Write your own headline at the top of your profile.
Avvo for Clients
In order for a client to review an attorney, the client must register for an account. You can register for an account by directly entering your name and email. Once your information is verified, you can optionally log in with Facebook, Google+, Linkedin or Twitter. This feature is great, because Avvo can directly pull the information from your social media sites in order to verify who you are. By logging in with social media, you eliminate the need to remember the Avvo username and password, which makes it convenient.
Attorney Directory and Reviews
AVVO is a website where you can find an attorney. Attorneys may have existing reviews from previous clients, but there is also an option to review attorneys. When you look up an attorney, you will find links to lawyer directories nationwide. Within these directories, you can choose to “find a lawyer near you”, or you can perform a search based on State.
For example, if you are in Columbus Ohio and select “find a lawyer near you” and enter “Gary Gottfried” as your search query you will find the profile for Gottfried Law. Search for Legal Topics
AVVO provides the user the ability to search for legal topics ranging from divorce, DUI, criminal cases, business law and more. The user is given the option to manually enter a search query or click on an existing legal topics from the menu list. For example, if you search for “divorce”, you will be given general articles about divorce. You will be given a link to divorce articles as well as the option to search for divorce attorneys in your area.
Free Legal Forms
Another feature on AVVO is the ability to generate and download free legal forms. These are very basic legal forms which include: a bill of sale, promissory note, legal disclosures (one way), prenuptial agreements and more. Creating a form is as simple as selecting your State and clicking on “get started”. For example, if the prenuptial form is selected, you will be given a standard template which you can modify by entering your name, the name of your spouse and other pertinent information. You can customize this form even further by adding custom text. When you are finished, click download and you will be able to print this form from your computer. Browse Lawyers by Practice
This feature allows the user to find attorneys based on areas of practice. For example, when you click on the tab, you will be able to search through a list of legal practice areas such as Adoption law to Wrongful Termination law. You can further narrow down your attorney search query by viewing attorneys by State and even further by viewing by City. You can also view lawyer profiles by searching for a specific name. Many lawyers have a photo, but there will be some who may not have verified their information.
